Subject: Richmond County Butterflies-October 6

Today I made what will undoubtedly be my last visit of the year to Sandhill=
s Gamelands in Richmond County hoping to find Meske=E2=80=99s Skipper. I sp=
ent 5+ hours trudging through the longleaf pine savannas where there was a =
lot of Liatris and some Carphephorus bellidifolius in bloom and found a gra=
nd total of ZERO Meske=E2=80=99s Skippers. It was a very discouraging day f=
rom that perspective=E2=80=A6.another reason in a long list of reasons to b=
e discouraged these days. Being 6 days in to October and with a couple of b=
irding trips on the near horizon, it appears doubtful that I will do anymor=
e butterflying in NC in 2020, and my species count for the year in NC will =
end at 90. With it looking more and more like the international travel rest=
rictions will continue well into next year, perhaps I will have the time to=
continue pursuing the state=E2=80=99s butterflies in 2021. Good butterflyi=
ng to all of you.
