Subject: Re: Re: cartenolide levels in milkweed

Loretta, was there a specific publication or publications by Dr. de Roode t=
hat
you had in mind for being summarized for a general audience? I confess it's
been a few decades since I was a biology grad student. I can appreciate the
challenges of reading a scientific paper.

If someone does feel inclined to write a summary of his work, in addition to
publishing in The Chrysalis, please contact me as I would like to share it
publicly through Backyard Butterflies social media accounts, newsletter, and
website.

I did read one of his publications that I thought might give some insight:
Comparative genetics of Na+/K+-ATPase in monarch butterfly populations with
varying host plant toxicity
(https://academic.oup.com/biolinnean/article/119/1/194/2701665)

However, I also did some poking around and came upon this summation of vari=
ous
papers that is written in fairly non-technical language for a general audie=
nce
that I think answers some of the questions we have generated about milkweeds
and Monarchs:

The original paper by Stephen B, Malcom that is referenced in the summation
can be downloaded to read. It's not too bad to read and provides more insig=
ht
than the summation:
