In search of Southern Pearly Eye and Gemmed Satyr, I followed recommendations and hit up I=E2=80=99On Swamp yesterday and today. Conditi= ons were 70s-low 80s with dappled sunlight along the forest trails.
4/6 930AM - 2PM Palamedes ST 10+ Eastern Tiger ST 7 Falcate Orange Tip 3, all male Cloudless Sulphur 2 Red-Banded HS 1 Henry=E2=80=99s Elfin 2 Pearl Crescent 10+ Polygonia sp >>>Southern Pearly Eye 2
Carolina and/or Intricate Satyr 10+ Still looking through pics to see whether any are good candidates for Intricate.
Little Wood Satyr 10+ The appearance of LWS here is much darker and redder than near me in Maryland. I=E2=80=99m a little surprised it doesn= =E2=80=99t rise to the level of ssp difference.
Juvenal=E2=80=99s DW 2 Zabulon 1 Clouded Skipper 2 >>>Roadside Skipper, probably Reversed 1
Also 8-Spotted Forester Moth and a couple of other species - a Renia, a Geometrid, and some microleps.
4/7 9AM-12PM Palamedes ST 10+ Eastern Tiger ST 3 Cloudless Sulphur 1 Red-Banded HS 9 Henry=E2=80=99s Elfin 5 Pearl Crescent 10+ Carolina/Intricate Satyr 10+ All after 11AM Little Wood Satyr 10+ >>> Gemmed Satyr 5ish. I only hunted down 5 out of about 10 candidates for verification. All found along I=E2=80=99On Swamp Trail. All before 11AM. >>> Southern PE 2 Juvenal=E2=80=99s DW 2 Clouded Skipper 1
More moths, including one that got taken by a damselfly while I was trying to photograph it.
A huge thanks to Salman Abdulali and Dennis Forsythe for helping make this happen. I=E2=80=99ve been hoping to see Gemmed Satyr for several decades.
