Guilford County - Jamestown White M Hairstreaks

Marie Poteat

I have observed a White M for four days in a row nectaring on the same
patch of mountain mint. There are at least 2 individuals that I have
observed in the area. I check this area everyday while this species (
Pycnanthemum muticum) is in bloom since this is the same area where I saw
the Great Purple Hairstreak last year for the first time and Coral
Hairstreak earlier this year for the first time. This species of
mountain mint blooms from late June to early September in my area and is a
pollinator and hairstreak magnet. I did not keep lists of all butterflies
observed over this period but activity remains good. If anyone is
interested in looking for this elusive hairstreak this is a good prospect
for seeing one (no guarantee), you may contact me by *replying to me only* on
this email and I will provide information for a visit.
