An impromptu South Coast trip - Mattapoisett and Plymouth / Carver (8/29/21=
)
Weather conditions: Mostly cloudy, humid 70-75 deg.F
Nasketucket Preserve - Mattapoisett, Plymouth Co, MA
A very early morning round of thunderstorms and downpours pretty much soake=
d everything and by the time I arrived, it was slow to dry out and the low =
overcast didn't budge therefore only two Leps to report. A fresh Pearl Cres=
cent and an Eastern Tailed Blue. One of each.

This location did not get wet and the sun peaked from the clouds from time =
to time and warmed up.
Now we're cooking with gas.....

Pearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos) 25+
Common Wood Nymph (Cercyonis pegala) 10+, all worn females
Red Banded Hairstreak (Calycopis cecrops) 20+ mostly on these tall bushy (p=
ink/purple) legumes. Females fresh, males somewhat worn. Scrub Oak is a sus=
pected larval host and there is no shortage of that in here.White-M Hairstr=
eak (Parhassius m-album) 1, wornGray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) 10+Stripe=
d Hairstreak (Satyrium liparops) 1, very worn. These can persist later into=
August surpassing most of your 'July Hairstreaks' but this is the latest d=
ate I have ever seen one.
Eastern Tailed Blue (Everes comyntas) 20+Summer Azure (Celastrina neglecta)=
