Guilford County - Jamestown 8-30-2021 Long-tailed Skipper

Marie Poteat

I checked the mountain mint area this morning and did not find any White M
Hairstreaks but saw 7 Red-banded Hairstreaks. Besides watering the flower
beds, I did not check any other areas for butterflies until around 4 when I
returned to the mountain mint area and saw the Long-tailed Skipper and 2
White M Hairstreaks. White M Hairstreaks have been in this area for 11
eleven days in a row so there is a healthy population here and this is one
of their favorite nectar sources. Both White M's were about 3 feet from
each other and both had lots of wear and tear on their wings. One has a
large area of the wing gone exposing the beautiful blue on the dorsal
side. The abbreviated list for today is below.
