Guilford County - Jamestown 9-13 and 9-14

Marie Poteat

The White M Hairstreaks are back. Yesterday I found 2 rather quickly, but
today it took a long time to find one and found 10 Red-banded Hairstreaks
in the process. I am still trying to find the Great Purple in this patch
of mountain mint like last year. Eastern Tiger Swallowtails are
disappearing fast with only 1 yesterday and none today. I was spot
spraying stiltgrass and found a Gemmed Satyr - the first in several
months. I have several dozen Black Swallowtail caterpillars and only 6-8
Monarch caterpillars that I have found this week. I included a picture of
a Fiery Skipper just caught in the web of a Yellow Garden Spider. It was
completely wrapped up in the web but clearly a Fiery Skipper, and yes I
included it in the count.
