Some local areas in Essex County today (10/2/21)
Weather conditions - variable clouds, some sun, around 70 deg.F

Salisbury Beach S.P. Salisbury, MA
Monarch (Danaus plexippus) around 40 or so roosting in trees just following sunrise, especially the Black Pines and Pitch Pines around the campground area. Although no big clusters of them. Only in pairs or three's spaced apart.
Cabbage White (Pieris rapae) a few


Appleton Farms (the west side of the property), Hamilton, MA
Monarch (Danaus plexippus) 20+
American Painted Lady (Vanessa virginiana) 15+ commonPearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos) 5+, a few very freshSilver Bordered Fritillary (Clossiana selene) 2, worn
American Copper (Lycaena phlaeas) 12+, commonBronze Copper (Hyllolycaena hyllus) 1 femaleEastern Tailed Blue (Everes comyntas) 5+

Least Skipper (Ancyloxypha numitor) 2 or 3

Sulphurs and whites - plenty, predominately C. philodice
Spencer - Pierce - Little Farm - Newbury, MA (near Plum Is. airstrip)
Monarch (D. plexippus) 10 or soPearl Crescent (Phyciodes tharos) 2 or 3
Buckeye (Junonia coenia) 1
American Copper (Lycaena phlaeas) 10 +
Sachem (Atalopedes campestris) 1 male, somewhat worn
Sulphurs and Whites - several around, predominately P. rapae.
