Umstead State Park in Wake Co., NC, yielded a handful of very common species. Here is what Lori Arent and I saw in a couple of hours, mainly near Big Lake -- powerline clearing, dirt roads, etc. E. Tiger Swallowtail 3 Gray Hairstreak 1 E. Tailed-Blue 1 Summer Azure 1 Variegated Fritillary 1 Pearl Crescent 5 American Lady 5 one seen ovipositing on cudweed (Gamochaeta sp.) Common Buckeye 2 Polygonia sp. 2 too fast for me! Red-spotted Purple 1 Carolina Satyr 1 Silver-spotted Skipper 1 Least Skipper 1 Fiery Skipper 1 Zabulon Skipper 1 male The most boring list of 15 species imaginable!
