I spent the afternoon at Cape Fear Shiner Park in Lillington. It was very
hot today, 97F with a heat index of 106F. There are many trails within and
outside the park, with a lot of different habitats, but that didn't
translate into a great variety of butterflies. About 1/4 mile from the park
proper, in front of the Harnett County Library, is about an acre of planted
*Cosmos* and *Zinnia*, but there weren't a lot of butterflies there either.
There is no access to the interior of these composites, so I am sure there
were more butterflies in there. The highlight was a lone Creole Pearly-eye.
Good butterflying.

Black Swallowtail 1, incl. 1 black female
Spicebush Swallowtail 2
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail 3
Sleepy Orange 1
Cloudless Sulphur 1
Red-spotted Purple 1
Common Buckeye 1
Pearl Crescent 1
Creole Pearly-eye 1
Appalachian Brown 1
Silver-spotted Skipper 8
Horace's Duskywing 1
Fiery Skipper 1
Least Skipper 4
