Hey all, Elisa & I took the kids and spent some time looking for butterflies in Hertford & Perquimans Co.'s, NC on 8/28/22, with stops in Gates & Pasquotank Co.'s too. We were in the field from late morning until dusk with good butterflying weather. One of my goals was to find a nice powerline in Hertford Co. and hopefully some associated butterfly species, but we ran out of time and the powerline crossings near Tunis that we checked were overgrown with weedy forbs and hopping only with Cloudless Sulphurs. We did better at some roadside flower patches, damp soil along the unpaved section of Craney Island Rd. in Perquimans Co., and along the edge of some big bean fields near Elizabeth City in the waning sunlight at the end of the day. Had to work to get to 20 species for the day, and all common/widespread species, but looks like we filled in Perquimans Co. in Butterflies of NC county distribution maps for a few such species.
