This is a good segue into another CHECKERED WHITE report from yesterday, a
new NC county record -- for *Henderson County*.

Marilyn Westphal photographed a male at the "Conserving Carolina property
at the Mud Creek/French Broad River confluence", which she said is largely
old fields. It certainly would be nice if there were a breeding colony in
the fields there. Currently, no one knows of any breeding colony or regular
breeding site in the state -- all recent records have been serendipitous
sightings of singletons. She said that she and Nora Murdock would check
there today to see if it can be refound and to see if there might be a
colony or at least 2-3 around -- plus of course anything else of interest
(as Henderson County has had relatively few recent butterfly observations).
