I think the butterfly brightness and color saturation is an imaging
artifact. I have seen a lot of Nymphalis antiopa hyperborea alive and under
bright sunlight. I have never seen one that looks like this one. Here are a
couple of pics of live hyperborea that are more consistent with what I see
in nature:

Although hyperborea does live in the northwestern portion of North America;
it is present across the northern part of our continent. Here is a little
