Elisa, the kids, & I enjoyed a Labor Day weekend trip to Sandhills Game
Land, where we tried to follow tips in helpful reports from others around
this time of year, especially Will Stuart & Mike Turner the past couple of
years. Sure enough, the best activity was at larger patches of ironweed,
which took some searching to find, and most of the patches were along
roadsides adjacent to longleaf stands.

I did see a satyr near Scotland Lake that I'll list as Carolina/Intricate
below. For what it's worth, it was quite approachable, and was upland of
the swamp ecotone there. I only saw the ventral side, and an image is here:
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/182190984__;!!OToaGQ!q-uaYpz36HgGp9vFMQEgeOH6oRV6SlFhZrkQhKLFdL3RHyaIAGGpPiI9ChsrAURXJx0M1EBvS_ygro15C5ZX$ . Curious of thoughts of
others with more experience with these two, understanding that ventral only
is likely inconclusive. And one general question: as the dorsal character
applies to males only, is there a way to differentiate the sex of these
species in the field, other than seeing ovipositing/mating, or the darker
inner portion of upperwings on male Carolina Satyr?
