Hello all! I apologize for the lateness of this report. It has been a busy =
week for me. I went out on Turman Rd in Rockingham County last Sunday. It w=
as 80 degrees and sunny with a light breeze. The route includes woods, fiel=
ds, a pond, and a road. It was a good day. Absent were the swallowtails, bu=
t I did see more variegated fritillaries than and red spotted purples than =
normal. Another interesting sight was a very unusual American Lady. Very da=
rk orange and the underside had the two spots, but the overall appearance w=
as more like a red admiral. It wouldn't let me get a picture.=C2=A0
I have also been doing some informal observing at work in Greensboro, NC. I=
am having hardly any butterflies now on our butterfly bush or in our woods=
. I did see a Painted Lady yesterday. I also observed two red spotted purpl=
es duking it out. Oddly enough, the one that won was the one with a chunk m=
issing from one of its hindwings. Here is my report from Truman Rd:
