Thanks, Marty, for this three-day set of sightings! Glad you and Dave
managed to get in parts of 3 days. And, thankfully, one truly rare species
-- Golden Banded-Skipper -- managed to be seen and photographed -- on the
official trip.

Obviously, the dates were too late to catch the tail end of the rapidly
advancing flight of Olympia Marble -- which now flies in the 3+ weeks from
very early March to very early April. Even the Silvery Blues seem to have
been finished, and the rare Cobweb Skipper eluded all.

I have led a number of CBS trips into the Piedmont and Coastal Plain of
North Carolina in late March and April, and thankfully I have been lucky
with the weather. Places like Raven Rock SP, the Sandhills region, Shocco
Creek, and Holly Shelter have been targets in April, and thankfully I/we
managed to get about all in -- seeing wonderful things like Cobweb Skipper,
Yucca Giant-Skipper, Mottled Duskywing, Frosted Elfin, and Dusky
Roadside-Skipper -- most of which are very hard to find nowadays,
especially without a group effort. But, April in the mountains is VERY
dicey! It can snow at middle and higher elevations, and of course even if
not, temperatures can be in the 30s through the 50s. I have led one or two
two-day mid-May trips in the past to Clay and Macon counties, getting at
least one of those two days in -- finding goodies like Tawny Crescent,
Silvery Blue, etc.

So, I commend those who planned this Madison trip, and those who made the
long trip; and at least you managed to get about 1/3rd of ONE day, out of
two days, in! Too bad you weren't able to get to Sandy Mush Game Land on
Sunday.
