My official Tryon Peak NC1190 count was followed by my first Tryon Mountain ridge count. The little over 1/2 mile NC1190 count is from 1800' to 1900' on the southeast side of the mountain. The longer, almost parallel ridge count is from 2800' to 3220' and was 2-3 weeks behind with trees only partially leafed out. Over half the ridge count butterflies were found "hilltopping" on the approximately acre summit above 3200'. This was only the second time I ever saw and photographed a Pepper and Salt Skipper. One of them must have been extremely fresh, greener than any of the photos I could find on the internet.
