Karl and I went to check for possible Carolina/Intricate Satyr on the
rail trail but were unable to locate satyrs. We did see 3 Pearl
Crescents, a Monarch, 3 Least Skippers, and a brown. The brown was
larger than a satyr and not behaving like one, bouncing around yards
away above water near and as high as the reeds, not landing. It was
likely an Appalachian or Eyed Brown. We did get to see a beaver snap off
a flower branch right next to us in the water. :)

Harvey Allen reports that he saw 2 Carolina Satyrs on the Norwottuck
Rail Trail beginning at Station Road yesterday. They were about 50 feet
past the beaver pond on the right and they were on the right. He got
good looks at them. He doesn't have a camera so he was unable to get
photos. But, he verified his suspicions with 3 different guide books
when he got home. He thought there could have been 3 of them but he only
saw 2 of them together at once.

Elise
