Folks,
The dry weather continues at Raleigh -- no rain since August 9 -- and the temps are now reaching the mid-90s once again. Despite the near drought (again), the Fiery Skippers and Southern Skipperlings are doing well. Here is what I saw for a bit over an hour in midday at 1) NC Museum of Art flower bed next to the parking lot, 2) the zinnias at the Museum parking lot north entrance, and 3) the Bandwidth flower beds and nearby white clover patch by Schenck Forest.
Black Swallowtail 1 male Sleepy Orange 2 Cloudless Sulphur 3 Variegated Fritillary 1 Painted Lady 1 again one at the zinnia patch for the third time in 3 tries this month! Common Buckeye 6 Silver-spotted Skipper 3 Common Checkered-Skipper 1 Horace's Duskywing 1 missed Wild Indigo DW again; missed it on the count but seen a few weeks ago Fiery Skipper 125 or more; so tired of them Sachem 10 NO dark skippers (Clouded, Ocola, etc.) Eufala Skipper 2 nice as always Southern Skipperling 40+ about 25 on the clovers and about 15 on the plantings south of Bandwidth; continuing in good numbers for a month now
