Hi All, I had a really good day in the yard on 8/25/24 and broke the previo=
us week=E2=80=99s record on the number of species noted (16 compared to 8/1=
9/24=E2=80=99s 15). FYI, I don=E2=80=99t put numbers next to my species bec=
ause I don=E2=80=99t want to double-count. My yard isn=E2=80=99t usually sw=
irling with butterflies. I=E2=80=99m usually more in and out of the garden,=
checking periodically during the day. This year, I=E2=80=99ve converted a =
lot more lawn to butterfly plantings, and it=E2=80=99s paying off with skip=
per action. I have tons of skippers buzzing around =E2=80=94 mostly Sachems=
. On the 25th, I saw my first Dun Skipper <https://urldefense.com/v3/__http=

=99ve seen recently in yard: a Red-banded Hairstreak the side of an Eastern=
Tailed-blue.)

I have only seen a Least Skipper once before in my yard and know it to be a=
wetland butterfly. We=E2=80=99re not around water and don=E2=80=99t have a=
ny wet areas in the yard, so this was a fun surprise. This one stayed a lon=
g time nectaring on mist plant. I looked up the Dun and the book says that =
it likes swamps and damp areas and its host plants are sedges. Well, last y=
ear, I planted a lot of sedges in the yard. Yay!

Pipevine Swallowtail
Black Swallowtail
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Cabbage White
Red-banded Hairstreak
Summer Azure
Monarch (male)
Gulf Fritillary
Great Spangled Fritillary
Pearl Crescent=20
Silver-spotted Skipper
Dun Skipper (first for the yard!)
Sachem
Zabulon Skipper
Clouded Skipper
Least Skipper

Cheers,
H.
