I went back to Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh for about an hour from about
1230-130. This was my first visit since the massive 5" rains a few days
ago, and differences were very noticeable. NO spreadwing skippers for
maybe my first time ever there!

Here is my list, on a mostly cloudy and "cool" day, temps around 76-78
(i.e, about 8-10 degrees below normal):

Pipevine Swallowtail 5
Black Swallowtail 1 male
Sleepy Orange 3
Cloudless Sulphur 5
Cabbage White 4
Red-banded Hairstreak *5 *definitely a new brood; usually 0-1
Monarch 1
Variegated Fritillary 2
Common Buckeye 12
Pearl Crescent 4
Fiery Skipper 125+
Sachem 3
Eufala Skipper 1
Clouded Skipper 2
Ocola Skipper 5 probably the most I've seen here in 2024; fresh, new brood

I cannot believe I saw no Silver-spotteds, no Horace's, etc. No Common
Checkereds. I could easily overlook the last, but the first two are gimmes
there at least through August, and often into September. Obviously, they
are in a dip between broods in the garden right now.
