Carolina Butterfly Society Midlands Chapter Trip ReportSI Group, Orangeburg= , SCSeptember 7, 2024=C2=A0 =C2=A012:30-4:45=C2=A0 =C2=A0Light rain turning= to sunny=C2=A0 =C2=A073-85 degrees We moved our starting time later due to predicted rain and it was still dri= zzling when we began our walk. We began by checking the croton for Goatweed= Leafwing larva and found several of those. We also found a couple of butte= rflies flying in the light drizzle. Around 1:00 the rain stopped, and the s= un came out and so did the butterflies. One of the main fields of croton ha= d only a few plants in it, but the area in the powerline still had plenty o= f croton. We walked the powerline, then into a wooded area near a creek and= finally walked down to the North Fork of the Edisto River so we covered ma= ny types of habitats. Diane Curlee was our leader. In attendance were Aliso= n Smith, Tom Austin, Scott Wietecha, and Dave and Marty Kastner.
