Butterfliers Wed. 091124 1100-1630 NE 10 sunny 75-78F Jeff Lewis and I made another trip to Alligator River NWR checking only about 10 miles of dirt roads. At times, some roads had no nectar sources. The Blue Mist Flowers that are usually active had no skippers but at least we found some flowers. Most of our skippers were on the Sneezeweed/Bitterweed. Palamedes Swallowtail 38 Cloudless Sulphur 21 Sleepy Orange 3 Gray Hairstreak 4 Red-banded Hairstreak 6 Pearl Crescent 1 Common Buckeye 15 Viceroy 1 Common Wood-Nymph 6 Monarch 1 Least Skipper 1 Fiery Skipper 3 Southern Broken-Dash 7 Northern Broken-Dash 1 Delaware Skipper 7 Aaron's Skipper 5 Broad-winged Skipper 14 Palatka Skipper 4 Eufala Skipper 3 Salt Marsh Skipper 51 Ocola Skipper 2 Less butterflies and species than we had Aug 31st in the same areas unfortuanately. It's Amazing Out There!! Audrey Whitlock S Nags Head, Dare Co NC PS Back on the outer banks (island side) we picked up Gulf Fritillary, Red-spotted Purple and Silver-spotted Skipper for the day. |
