Route 1190 is a curious dead end, unimproved gravel route with no
powerlines or houses. Today there were downed trees about every 100 yards,
so I only managed to walk for 15 minutes, about a quarter of it.

We had similar tree damage on Windmill Hill at home, but by Friday,
September 28 afternoon after the earlier hurricane force winds had abated,
we had many butterflies nectaring in our gardens. This has continued every
day since with as many as 12 Cloudless Sulphurs, 7 Gulf Fritillary, 3
Longtail Skippers, and expected numbers of other species except for one. We
have yet to see a Monarch in August, September, and October.

One species that didn't fare well are squirrels. We frequently had three
on the ground under our bird feeders and a similar number in the woodlot
trees beyond the feeders. Eight of those trees fell in the storm, three
large ones now lying on the ground, and 5 more leaning against other trees.
I have only seen one squirrel in our yard since the storm.
